Peeknook

Documentation

Features

Private intelligence for everything on your screen.

Core features

  • Built for the MacBook notch

Peeknook lives in the notch as a compact panel you open when you need it. Ask about your screen and read the answer without breaking focus.

  • Understand anything on screen

Press ⌘⇧P to capture what you're looking at and get an answer back immediately. Peeknook only runs when you ask. Nothing watches in the background.

  • Brief it before you capture

Press ⌘⇧B to tell Peeknook what you want first: translate this, explain that error, summarize a chart, or answer a specific question.

  • Conversations that continue

Follow up in the same thread, capture again, and come back later without starting over. Screenshots and answers stay together until you open a new chat.

  • Private AI on your Mac

Inference runs on your Mac by default. Screenshots and chats stay on your machine unless you turn on something optional that sends data elsewhere.

  • Quick takes or deep dives

Choose a short answer when you want speed, or a fuller explanation when you want more detail. Switch from the home screen or Settings anytime.

  • Frame what matters

Capture the window under your cursor or the whole screen on the display you're using. Built for multi-monitor setups.

  • Curate your personal model library

Peeknook ships with Gemma 4 as the starting point. Browse, download, and switch vision models from Settings, and build the catalog you want on your Mac.

  • Local usage insights

See captures, answers, token use, and model breakdowns in Stats. Everything stays on your Mac. Nothing is sent to Peeknook.

Optional features

Off until you turn them on. See Privacy for what can leave your Mac.

  • Selected text as context

Send highlighted text along with the screenshot when you want Peeknook to focus on a specific passage, label, or snippet.

  • Confirm before you share

Preview which app and window will be captured before Peeknook sends anything for analysis.

  • Suggested follow-ups

After each answer, Peeknook can propose a few next questions you can tap to keep going.

  • Voice in, voice out

Dictate briefs and follow-ups with on-device speech recognition, and have answers read back to you. Pick a reading voice in Settings.

  • Web context on demand

Let Peeknook search the web when an answer needs outside context. It skips password managers and anything that looks like a secret.

  • Your local chat archive

Save past chats and screenshots on your Mac, up to 25 conversations. Reopen any thread from Past chats, or delete what you no longer need.

  • Run AI on another Mac

Point Peeknook at another computer on your network when you want inference to run there instead of on this machine.
